Success at the IBJJF World Championships

Taking a team across the world to compete at the IBJJF World Championships is no small feat. It requires meticulous planning, unwavering commitment, and a shared vision of excellence. This year, the journey was even more special as it marked a significant milestone for our team at Gracie Barra Nottingham. Traveling thousands of miles to face the best in the world, our athletes demonstrated not only their world class Jiu-Jitsu, but also their resilience and determination.

Iryan, at just 18 years old, demonstrated incredible skill and composure in a division featuring 82 of the world’s best blue belts. His journey to the bronze medal was marked by astonishing achievements, including submissions from various positions, one of which was a lightning-fast 7-second armbar. After three consecutive finishes, Iryan triumphed over the Brazilian National Champion and the number 2 seed in the quarter-finals. Though he narrowly lost to the eventual gold medalist in a fiercely contested match, Iryan’s performance solidified his status as one of the world’s elite competitors in his category. His accomplishment is a testament to his talent and perseverance, promising an even brighter future ahead.

Kyle also showcased his extraordinary talent by securing a bronze medal at the Worlds, adding to his medal from the Euros earlier this year. Competing in two major international competitions and medaling in both is a remarkable feat. Kyle’s path to success was paved with four consecutive submissions, all chokes, which propelled him through the qualifier rounds and the quarter-finals. In a thrilling match, he submitted the current European Champion and the number 2 seed, who had beat him in the semi-finals of the Euros earlier this year. This victory highlighted Kyle’s remarkable improvement and resilience, proving that he is evolving at an astonishing pace. His achievements at the highest level are truly special and indicative of his exceptional potential.

Celebrating Team Effort and Pride

The success of these young athletes is a source of immense pride for everyone at Gracie Barra Nottingham. Their journey from promising young talents to some of the best blue belts in the world in such a short span is inspiring. However, their achievements are not just individual triumphs; they are a testament to the strength and unity of our entire team.
